Biography

Howard Newville, PHD
Psychologist

Dr. Howard Newville is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the states of California and New York.

Dr. Newville has experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings, in clinics and hospitals. He uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but also draws from other treatment modalities, such as Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Problem Solving Therapy, to ensure the best treatment for each client’s individual needs. He is specialized in working with patients with depression, anxiety, chronic medical conditions, substance use issues, work stress, insomnia, and trauma.

Dr. Newville believes the most important part of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. It is through this relationship that the client can have the space to explore their emotions and put their issues into context. With self-reflection and new techniques and coping skills, Dr. Newville can help you to improve the quality of your life with strategies that untangle complicated problems and increasing your focus on self-care.

Dr. Newville has experience as a clinician and a researcher. He graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Health Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship with the University of California San Francisco’s Clinical Psychology Training Program at San Francisco General Hospital and obtained a postdoctoral research grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to support his postdoctoral training. He conducted research on the effects of depression and substance use on medication adherence before becoming a full-time clinician.
