Dr. John Whittier was born and raised in New Mexico. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for a BA in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology prior to obtaining his MA in Medical Science at Loyola University Chicago. He completed his training in medicine at the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and then headed back to Colorado to complete his residency in psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Dr. Whittier approaches each client as an individual, utilizing a combination of psychotherapy, medications, and evidence-based alternative therapies to address each person’s unique needs. As a member of the psychotherapy scholars at the University of Colorado, he has learned to take a comprehensive look at the factors that influence mental health in order to treat the person as more than the disorder. He strives to work with his clients to provide options and flexibility in the treatment plan.
In his downtime, Dr. Whittier enjoys working with rescued animals and participating in mindfulness exercises. You will also frequently find him out on a bike trail enjoying the Colorado sun.
