Mr. Roberts

Justin Roberts received his Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University, his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Diego State University, and his Associate Degree in Nursing from San Diego City College. He is board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the ANCC.

Justin was first drawn to the field of psychiatry while completing his nursing school clinical rotations. Having come from a 19-year career in veterinary medicine, he quickly recognized that the empathy and compassion he had developed there were extremely valuable skills when helping people struggling with mental health issues. He set his sights on becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Over the years, he has worked in an acute care inpatient psychiatry unit and also on a consult team treating patients with substance use disorders. He looks forward to meeting new patients each day and helping them achieve their mental health goals.

Justin grew up in New Mexico, surrounded by vibrant Southwestern culture, delicious food, and picturesque landscapes. He immersed himself in the music and theater scene at his high school and university and became active in the queer community shortly after he came out at age 16. Growing up in a relatively conservative town presented many challenges for him as a young queer kid, but those experiences made him understand and appreciate the importance of trust, inclusion, visibility, and mutual respect.

He embraces each person he meets with curiosity and an open mind. His priority with each encounter is to create a warm and welcoming environment that is free from judgment so clients feel comfortable sharing anything that is on their mind.

When he isn’t working, Justin can often be found attending live shows or listening to or dancing to one of his favorite records at home (current rotation: Metronomy, Róisín Murphy, Stromae, and Warpaint). He and his husband spend a lot of time with their two cheeky and rather spoiled dogs who frequently demand their undivided attention in the form of affection or food (not always in that order). He also loves traveling, hiking, cycling, and pretending to be good at roller skating.
