Mrs. Karina Alexander is a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in the state of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Alexander received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Seton Hill University and her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Let’s be honest, life is stressful; often our emotions are overwhelming and difficult to manage. Especially now, given what we are all living through. Karina is a caring and compassionate counselor who would like to help you find better ways of coping with whatever is causing you concern.
Karina holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from an accredited university. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Karina has 5 years of direct counseling involvement and over 10 years of practice in the field of mental and behavioral health. Karina has experience with couples counseling, family counseling, and group counseling, but mostly enjoys working with clients individually.
When working with clients, Karina tends to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps to identify and change the automatic negative thoughts that we ALL have. Learning to identify these negative thoughts is important because our thoughts influence our feelings or emotions, which then in turn impact our actions and behaviors. When you learn to change your thought patterns, you will soon notice a change in your emotions and behaviors. Karina also enjoys using Narrative Therapy; we all have a story and most of us only see our story from one perspective. When you start to look at your story from other perspectives, often using more positive thoughts (that you learned from CBT), you will start to identify strengths and values that you did not know you had.
Here is a little secret: a counselor is constantly trying to work themselves out of a job. Karina’s purpose as your counselor is to provide you with the support you need to work on your objectives and achieve your goals so that you are no longer in need of counseling. Karina is looking forward to working with you soon!
When Karina is not busy being an awesome counselor, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 dogs. Karina loves the outdoors, especially the beach, and can often be found hiking, biking, kayaking, or reading in a hammock.
