Mrs. Lauretta Akpoyowar is a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Mrs. Akpoyoware graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and currently works as an independent clinician. She provides psychotherapy to individuals and family and will listen to you with empathy, without judgment.

Originally from Nigeria, Mrs. Akpoyoware relocated to San Antonio in 1997 as she heard this was a great city to raise her young growing family. She graduated with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2015 and has worked in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings as a therapist over the course of her career. Mrs. Akpoyoware has over 19 years of experience in the mental health field, including the privilege of working as the assistant administrator of an out-patient mental health clinic for over 4 years.

Lauretta works with teens from ages 15-18, couples, and families dealing with substance abuse/addiction, relationship issues, PTSD, Trauma-informed care, mood disorders, depression, and anxiety. She also has experience working with clients with dual diagnoses and offers faith-based counseling. She is very passionate about what she does as a counselor and believes the power to make better choices lies in the individual and not the therapist. She uses a various range of modalities to include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Reality Therapy approaches in her sessions as she considers each individual as unique.

Mrs. Akpoyoware is married with 3 children, enjoys singing in her church choir, and loves spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys traveling and trying out new restaurants in her leisure.
