Dr. Robert McAlister, PSYD is a California Licensed Psychologist.
Dr. McAlister has worked over 13 years as a Psychologist in a variety of clinical settings and has 26 years total experience in mental health. He obtained his BS in 1997 in Anthropology, his MS in Counseling Psychology in 2000 with the primary focus on community counseling and his Psychology Doctorate Degree with an emphasis in Addiction Treatment and Forensic Psychology in 2005. His doctoral dissertation focused on Positive Psychology and its overall impact in the counseling profession. He is also a member of the American Psychological Association and American Counseling Association.
Dr. McAlister has worked in the field of mental health in a number of areas including outpatient wraparound agencies, inpatient hospital settings, department of mental health, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery for the Department of Defense, Wounded Warrior Battalion West Camp Pendleton serving our nations active duty service members and private practice settings. He has experience in the treatment of anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, adjustment difficulties, addictions, PTSD, Bipolar Disorders, Trauma and stress/anger management. He has a vast background in working with children, teenagers as well as men and women in a variety of culturally and ethnically diverse populations, including individuals from the LGBTI, and Gender Identity communities. He has substantial training with individuals who are currently experiencing PTSD and dual diagnoses.
Dr. McAlister uses a person-centered approach working with and involving clients in their treatment. He utilizes cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral, Cognitive Processing, Cognitive Restructuring and psycho educational approaches to address/process the issues underlying the maladaptive concerns the client wishes to change.
