Stephanie Patterson, MBA, MPA, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Ms. Stephanie Patterson is a board-certified family psychiatric nurse practitioner. Ms. Patterson began her nursing career as a pediatric psychiatric nurse at an acute psychiatric hospital. Stephanie has worked across the lifespan, including working in acute geriatric psychiatry/medical-surgical nursing at a highly-respected magnet hospital in Pasadena, California, and she has provided patient-centered care to veterans in acute psychiatry at the Greater West Los Angeles VA Medical Center in the past as well.

Prior to joining Happier Living, Ms. Patterson worked as a primary care provider in an outpatient setting at a community mental health center providing mental health treatment to those diagnosed with a variety of mental health conditions and comorbidity (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, addiction, etc.). Stephanie is also a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) provider, authorized to treat opioid dependence and she has experience prescribing newer long-acting antipsychotic intramuscular injection medications (e.g., Abilify Maintena, Aristada, Invega Sustenna, etc.) in the management of certain mental health conditions, when appropriate.

Stephanie’s training in mental health extends to the field of public service where she previously served in the role of a Deputy Public Conservator (under California’s Lanterman-Petris Short Act of 1967). In her role, Stephanie was court-appointed to manage the affairs of publicly conserved individuals who were unable to provide for their own basic living needs due to a severe mental health condition – she also conducted face-to-face assessments with conservatees to determine ongoing needs and monitored care plan implementation. Ms. Patterson incorporates motivational interviewing techniques and a holistic approach when providing mental health treatment services (e.g., fish oil supplementation in certain mood disorders). She is also a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association (ACNA) and Stephanie has evidence-based experience managing adult mental health clients who use medical cannabis therapy and/or CBD oils in California for a diagnosed health condition.

Along with completing her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) Degree in 2019, Ms. Patterson has an impressive list of professional accomplishments and she was selected by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to serve on their leadership committees – where Stephanie has been involved in advocacy efforts and important healthcare policy issues during 2015-19. Ms. Patterson has also lobbied Michigan legislators in support of the Michigan Nurses Association’s Safe Patient Care Act, a state where Stephanie has strong roots.

Her stellar educational background includes earning master’s degrees in multiple disciplines; an advanced degree in public administration (MPA) and another in business administration (MBA) by the time she was just 24 years old. Stephanie was also a recent recipient of the “Millennial Nurse of the Year” award (for nurses born between 1981-1996), from the I-Help Foundation in Long Beach, California in 2017. Additionally, Ms. Patterson has received numerous other awards from the National Black Nurses Association for her track record of community engagement focused on reducing health disparities in the mental health arena and improving access to timely care.
