Ms. Vanna Thuston is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW#59882) in the state of Texas.
Ms. Thuston was raised in the military and has lived in multiple states as well as overseas. Vanna resides in Houston, TX, and completed her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles California, and is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Social Work at the Institute for Clinical Social Work in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to clinical work, she holds a Committee Member position with the Association for Social Work Boards examination development team.
Vanna has worked in various settings including an inpatient psychiatric hospital, juvenile detention placement, residential treatment centers, and provided intensive case management to clients in their homes and within the Houston community. Her specialties focus on clients who suffer from serious Mental Health symptoms related to psychosis, suicidal thoughts, and co-occurring substance use. She also specializes in adolescent issues such as social skills, oppositional defiance, and trauma-related symptoms resulting in Depression, Anxiety, and aggressive behaviors. During her career, she has worked with children & adolescents, teens placed in juvenile detention centers, adults including geriatric focus, and affords a special interest in working with Women of Color.
Vanna uses psychodynamic theory to formulate a deeper understanding of a client’s thought processes through techniques of free talk and creating a therapeutic frame to enhance self-awareness, highlighting patterns of thoughts & behaviors. Vanna also utilizes treatment models aligned with cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, & developmental theory as well as further helping clients learn how to better manage symptoms with DBT skills, grounding techniques & voice work. She provides a welcoming and relational approach to therapy and enjoys connecting naturally with clients to gain a better understanding of their concerns and ease their suffering.
