Growing up in a small town in New York State, Dr. Watkins developed a strong foundation in empathy and intellectual curiosity, thanks to his supportive family. His father, an electrical engineer, instilled in him a love for the sciences, while his mother, a deeply caring individual, nurtured his empathic development.

Dr. Watkins received his Master’s Degree in Public Health and Medical Doctorate (MD) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is fully Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), a testament to his extensive training and commitment to excellence in his field.

Dr. Watkins is passionate about hearing people's life histories and experiences. He believes that every person has a unique story to tell, filled with both good and bad, happy and sad moments. This fascination with human development and self-understanding is what initially drew him to the field of psychiatry. He is dedicated to providing a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can be honest about their struggles. Dr. Watkins emphasizes the importance of transparency, knowing that true healing begins when clients feel comfortable sharing their realities, no matter how painful or embarrassing.

Clients working with Dr. Watkins quickly realize that he is not just a serious professional but also someone who can be incredibly silly and fun. He describes himself as respectful, fair, and honest, traits that are central to his therapeutic approach. His goal is to help clients grow by offering insights into their problems and empowering them to find solutions.

What keeps Dr. Watkins passionate about his work is the profound satisfaction he feels when he truly helps someone through a challenging time. He values the unique connections he forms with his clients and believes these relationships can provide a special path to healing.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Watkins enjoys staying fit and being active. Living in San Diego, CA, he takes full advantage of the temperate climate, engaging in activities like tennis, beach volleyball, and softball. He is also an avid gardener and enjoys tackling DIY projects around the house. Dr. Watkins is a self-proclaimed "weather person," loving the sunshine and moderate temperatures of San Diego, and he has no plans of leaving this perfect environment.
