With a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Monica has been dedicated to advocacy and empowering individuals to find their voice in a vast world.
Growing up in a single-parent household with two younger siblings, Monica learned early the value of responsibility and community support. As a first-generation college student, she braved new paths, embodying courage and determination that later became integral to her counseling approach.
Monica’s therapeutic philosophy centers on the belief that therapy is a journey, not a quick fix. She emphasizes the importance of commitment to personal growth and collaborates with her clients to develop lifelong strategies for navigating life’s challenges. Monica’s approach is heavily influenced by Adlerian therapy, focusing on empowerment and self-actualization, and she frequently incorporates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) emotional regulation skills into her practice.
What sets Monica apart is her vast experience working in diverse settings, from college campuses to prison transitional housing. This range has given her a profound appreciation for various backgrounds and cultures, enhancing her ability to connect with and support a wide array of clients. She cherishes the trust her clients place in her and is motivated by witnessing the transformative power of therapy, as individuals overcome barriers and realize their worth and potential.
Outside her professional life, Monica is an avid soccer player, enjoying the camaraderie and competition with long-time friends. Family is a cornerstone of her life, evident in her joy of dinners with her children and the delight of spoiling her grandchildren. An enthusiastic traveler, she relishes the opportunity to explore new places, finding rejuvenation and inspiration in her adventures.
Monica’s journey, marked by resilience and a deep commitment to advocacy, makes her a formidable ally in the therapeutic process. She is not just a counselor, but a guide, committed to helping her clients navigate their paths to personal empowerment and self-discovery.
