Mrs. Darby Mckee considers herself down to earth and easy going. She loves gardening, wandering the woods, and taking care of the animals on her small farm. She received her initial bachelor’s degree at Auburn University in horticulture. She worked as a landscape designer while following her military family. Darby received a scholarship through the VA, allowing her to work with veterans while working on her master’s degree. She received her Bachelor of Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing through the Accelerated Master’s Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
She possesses a solid foundation in mental health treatment, established through working with diverse populations of psychiatric patients and distinct types of treatment settings. Working at UAB Hospital as an RN on multiple psychiatric units. She has treated people with depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, adjustment disorder, trauma, PTSD, and traumatic brain injuries. She has worked with children, adolescents, and adults on both acute and non-acute units. As a nurse practitioner she has worked inpatient, outpatient, and in nursing homes.
Fulfilling a lifelong passion to help others, she strives to provide a patient focused treatment plan through individualized and personal attention, in order to assess and understand each client's specific mental health needs and provide the necessary treatment to attain and retain their best quality of life.
She believes in helping individuals reclaim control over their lives with as little medication as possible. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing which is a therapy to help people with PTSD and other trauma. She is particularly interested in the treatment of patients suffering from PTSD and trauma related illnesses, with a specific focus on adolescents, young adults, and veterans.
