Dr. Saira Hussain, DO, is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with subspecialty board certification in Consultation Psychiatry. She has spent the last decade specializing in Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry, focusing on the intersection of mental and physical health. Through her extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, and emotional distress in medically ill patients, she became deeply passionate about supporting individuals navigating chronic medical conditions, demoralization, and life transitions. Over time, she found herself drawn to outpatient care, where she could build lasting therapeutic relationships and help patients develop meaningful strategies to cope, heal, and thrive.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a pre-medicine focus from St. John’s University in Queens, followed by her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from NYCOM/NYIT in Old Westbury. Her early interest in human behavior and mental health deepened through coursework in psychology, where she became fascinated by how people develop coping mechanisms and manage stress. She was particularly drawn to hearing patients’ stories, understanding their backgrounds, and helping them navigate the emotional impact of medical conditions.

Dr. Hussain takes a holistic, mind-body approach to psychiatry, recognizing the deep connection between physical and mental well-being. She empowers her patients to identify unhelpful thought patterns, process emotions, and take actionable steps toward healing. She integrates wellness strategies, coaching, and nutrition into her work when applicable, helping individuals cultivate resilience and regain a sense of control in their lives. Creating a safe, warm, and supportive space is at the core of her practice—she takes great pride in ensuring that her patients feel heard, validated, and empowered after each session.

Her clinical passions include burnout prevention, wellness, trauma recovery, chronic medical conditions, and life transitions. She is particularly dedicated to helping patients who feel demoralized due to long-term medical struggles, guiding them toward rediscovering purpose and hope.

Through her deeply compassionate, patient-centered approach, Dr. Hussain remains committed to helping individuals heal, grow, and navigate life’s challenges with resilience and strength.

Outside of work, Dr. Hussain enjoys baking, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her young children. She finds joy in decorating, organizing events, and exploring new parks and gardens with family and friends. Long walks provide her with a sense of reflection and balance, reinforcing her belief in the importance of mental and emotional well-being.
