Tonia Ajamu is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a deep-rooted commitment to helping others achieve mental, emotional, and social wellness. Born in North Carolina and raised in Connecticut, Tonia’s passion for healthcare was sparked at the age of 15 when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Witnessing the holistic and compassionate care her mother received left a lasting impression and ignited her calling to pursue a career in nursing.

Tonia began her journey in healthcare by completing her associate degree at Norwalk Community College. She later earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington, and is ANCC board certified in psychiatric mental health.

Drawn to the field by a fascination with how the brain works and a desire to help break the stigma surrounding mental health, Tonia sees her work as both a science and a service. She believes that compassion, critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and effective communication are cornerstones of her approach to care. She practices evidence-based medicine and embraces a range of therapeutic modalities in order to support the best possible outcomes for her clients.

Tonia approaches each client relationship with integrity, patience, and loyalty. She listens without judgment and encourages clients to take an active role in setting and reaching their treatment goals. Her dedication to providing optimal mental wellness is matched only by her genuine desire to see her clients grow. For Tonia, the most rewarding part of her work is witnessing that growth firsthand.

When she’s not working, Tonia enjoys spending quality time with her adult children and granddaughter. Whether they’re watching movies, playing board games, or trying new recipes together, those simple joys keep her grounded and inspired.
