Dr. Andrew Reed, PhD, is a dedicated clinical psychologist with extensive experience in treating a wide range of psychological disorders. With a deep-seated commitment to helping clients overcome challenges related to work, love, and play, Dr. Reed provides a compassionate and evidence-based approach to therapy.
Dr. Reed earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas, graduating Cum Laude and receiving university-wide recognition for his potential in research. He pursued his Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at the University of Wyoming, an APA-accredited program, where he was honored as the Outstanding Graduate Student Teacher. Further refining his clinical expertise, he completed his internship at the Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Medical College. During this time, he also engaged in analytical training with the CG Jung Institute, which he later chose not to continue, prioritizing pragmatic approaches that better serve his clients.
Driven to make a tangible impact, Dr. Reed's therapeutic philosophy is rooted in practicality and hard work. He focuses on identifying and addressing disorders such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD while also helping clients build the necessary skills to thrive in their daily lives. He emphasizes that while there are no shortcuts to meaningful change, dedicated effort can yield significant breakthroughs.
Dr. Reed's professional journey has been shaped by his personal experiences, including his upbringing as a military brat and his exposure to diverse cultures while living abroad. His father, a WWII veteran, instilled in him the values of resilience and perseverance. These formative experiences, coupled with his self-reliant path through higher education, have informed his empathetic and relatable approach to therapy.
Throughout his career, Dr. Reed has held leadership roles, including spearheading the development of an APA-accredited doctoral internship program. He has trained in various empirically validated therapies for PTSD and has extensive experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, drawing from his studies with pioneers like Dr. David Burns. Additionally, his personal journey through relationships has fueled his passion for couples therapy, where he applies Gottman’s research-based techniques to help clients build stronger, healthier relationships.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Reed has led an adventurous and diverse life. His love for the outdoors has taken him from the Ozarks to the Rockies, engaging in activities such as canoeing, hiking, spelunking, and technical rock climbing. He has motorcycled across the lower 48 states, paddled the Grand Canyon, and even joined the Indiana Army National Guard later in life to maintain his fitness and contribute to society in a new capacity. Now, he enjoys reading and walking his dog daily, reflecting on a life filled with rich experiences.
Dr. Reed approaches his work with authenticity and humility, continuously striving to improve himself and the lives of those he serves. He believes in creating a safe, judgment-free environment where clients can explore their deepest challenges and develop practical solutions to live fulfilling lives.
