Ms. Dawn Smithey is a California Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.

Ms. Smithey began her career as a school counselor in the Los Angeles School District and later worked in school mental health, providing therapy for students and parents. She worked with adolescents for 24 years. Previously, she spent a year as a marriage and family therapy intern at the Clare Foundation working with clients with substance abuse disorders and Co-occurring Disorders. Dawn also interned with Open Paths Counseling Center for two and a half years, specializing in domestic violence and trauma survivors, depression and social anxiety.

Ms. Smithey currently provides therapy for adults and couples, often using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness and Narrative Therapy. Prior to a career in mental health, she was a professional vocalist and pianist; she finds music therapeutic for some clients and will incorporate music therapy when appropriate. Understanding that each client is unique, Dawn is flexible in using the type of treatment program and therapy which suits the needs of each client.

Ms. Smithey’s role as a psychotherapist is to provide you with a confidential, caring and professional setting to privately address your concerns. Everyone can live a more meaningful life and Dawn is passionate about empowering people to overcome obstacles, gain self-awareness and understanding to create a life they love and one where they can experience happiness.
