Education & Training

Brandy Cooks-Thomas is a dedicated and compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a deep commitment to providing holistic, patient-centered care. With a unique blend of experience in both education and healthcare, Brandy is passionate about empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being and achieve their personal health goals.

Brandy’s academic journey began at Brown University, where she majored in Human Biology: Brain and Behavior, igniting her fascination with the intricate connection between the mind and body. After graduating, she pursued her passion for education by joining Teach For America, teaching third grade while earning a Master’s in Teaching from Pace University in New York City. Her teaching career spanned across New York and Georgia, where she found immense fulfillment in shaping young minds and fostering growth.

Driven by a desire to make an even greater impact in healthcare, Brandy transitioned into nursing and pursued a Bachelor’s in Nursing and a Master’s Degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner from Emory University. She began her career as an FNP in a rural community, where she quickly recognized the pressing need for mental health resources. Witnessing the challenges faced by individuals seeking care, she was inspired to further her education and obtained a certification in psychiatric mental health from Southeastern Louisiana University. This additional training allows Brandy to provide comprehensive care, addressing both physical and mental health concerns with a deep understanding of their intersection.

Brandy believes that building trust and rapport is the cornerstone of effective care. She creates a safe, non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Her approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to meeting clients where they are, working together to develop personalized strategies for achieving their wellness goals.

As both an FNP and PMHNP, Brandy takes a holistic approach, considering the physical health factors that can impact mental well-being and ensuring that clients receive appropriate referrals and resources. She is particularly passionate about helping individuals manage mood disorders, addiction, and trauma, ensuring they have access to the support they need.

Outside of her professional life, Brandy enjoys watching psychological thrillers, indulging her curiosity about the human mind. She loves traveling to visit landmarks with her energetic son and finds joy in shopping—whether it’s a trip to the local Dollar Tree or browsing high-end stores. Brandy’s vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to her clients make her a trusted provider, advocate, and partner in their journey toward improved health and wellness.
