Dr. Deborah Miora, PhD, is a highly trained Clinical Psychologist with advanced certifications in neuropsychology and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Known for her intellectual curiosity, thoughtfulness, and engaging nature, Dr. Miora is dedicated to helping clients navigate life's complexities and achieve their personal and relational goals. With a strong foundation in object relations theory, she excels at understanding the intricate dynamics of individuals, families, and systems, using this knowledge to foster perspective-building and effective problem-solving.
Dr. Miora’s academic journey began with a double major in Sociology and Psychology, culminating in her BA from Ithaca College. She then earned her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, followed by post-doctoral certification in neuropsychology at the Fielding Graduate Institute. To deepen her expertise, she pursued advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Psychoanalytic Center of California and is currently a post-seminar candidate toward certification in psychoanalysis.
Growing up as the eldest daughter in a family of seven during Boston’s transformative 1960s, Dr. Miora’s perspective was shaped by a culturally rich environment. Her upbringing in a public health-oriented household, which welcomed individuals from diverse global backgrounds, inspired her fascination with the philosophies and behaviors that unite and divide individuals and groups. This passion continues to inform her approach to therapy, which emphasizes the power of collaboration, relational teamwork, and continuous learning.
Dr. Miora’s therapeutic approach is both no-nonsense and deeply compassionate. She values the richness of the therapeutic relationship, recognizing it as an evolving contract that requires mutual reflection and adaptation. Her understanding of and sensitivity to different brain-based styles of relating and learning guide her in tailoring her approach to each individual, couple, or family unit. She meets clients where they are, acknowledging their unique experiences while remaining mindful of her own limitations. Her practice emphasizes sensitivity, honesty, and the shared pursuit of insight and growth.
