Laya Buchanan, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, known for her caring, thoughtful, and nurturing approach. Raised in a small town outside of San Antonio, TX, Laya’s journey into mental health care was significantly influenced by her family background in nursing and her own early professional experiences.

After graduating high school early, Laya joined the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. This pivotal experience, combined with her role in providing care for special needs clients and their families at home, ignited her passion for mental health services. She saw the profound impact of developing and fostering relationships with clients, which led her to further her education. Laya holds a Master’s Degree in Nursing – PMHNP from Walden University and is ANCC-Board Certified, reflecting her deep commitment to her field.

Laya is driven by an innate ability to build rapport with individuals. She describes herself as organized and deeply invested in guiding her clients through their mental health journey. Respecting the individuality of each client, she emphasizes that she never forces anything on her clients, ensuring they have a significant voice in their treatment plan. Her approach is about nurturing trust and empowering clients in their mental health journey.

What keeps Laya dedicated to her profession is the life-changing connections she builds. Witnessing clients grow and recover from mental illness brings her immense fulfillment. She believes in the transformative power of mental health care and is devoted to making a positive impact in the lives of those she serves.

Outside of her professional life, Laya values her faith, spending quality time with her family, working out, vacationing, and serving others. Her interests and commitment to her community are integral to who she is, both as a professional and an individual.
