Clinician Spotlight - Dr. Elizabeth Roberts

For psychiatrist Elizabeth Roberts, M.D., Happier Living is a beautiful fit. “Happier Living values psychotherapy as much as I do,” she says.

Over the 30 years that Dr. Roberts has been practicing psychiatry, psychotherapy has always been a vital part of her approach to total patient care. Outside of private practice, there are rarely any opportunities for a psychiatrist to engage in psychotherapy with their patients, she says. “Happier Living is a refreshing alternative to the typical psychiatric practice where doctors are pushed to do a 10-minute assessment and prescribe medication to a patient they hardly know.”

The company’s “philosophies and practice principles align so well with my own,” she says.

For Dr. Roberts, connecting with her patients is paramount. “I love psychiatry because much of the care I provide to my patients comes from making a genuine and caring connection of the heart,” she says. “Of course, the clinical, scientific and biological understanding of a patient is also a crucial part of quality care. Yet, psychiatry is the one specialty in medicine that also requires making a meaningful emotional connection with a patient.”

It was this facet of psychiatry that made the field so attractive to her early on.  Her areas of specialization are depression, anxiety, relationship problems and addiction. “I adjust my therapeutic technique to fit my patient’s needs,” she says.

Dr. Roberts recently moved from California to Florida. She sees Happier Living patients in both states. When not working, she has been busy getting settled in Florida. “My husband and I recently found a beautiful home, and it has been such a joy settling in and making the house our own,” she says. “I just love living in Florida. My husband and I love the water and the rain in Florida, and we enjoy boating when we can.”

When she isn’t outside enjoying Florida’s weather, she can be found on the dance floor.  “I am a competitive ballroom dancer. I compete as an amateur, dancing with my instructor,” she says.
